Dr Ranjana Sarma (India)
Dr Ranjana Sarma is a former federal grants manager with the Wellcome Trust Department of Biotechnology (DBT) India Alliance in Hyderabad, India. She received her PhD in Biochemistry from Montana State University in the US, where she was trained as a structural biologist with skills in X-ray crystallography and small-angle X- ray scattering. Following her PhD, Dr Sarma worked at the University of Florida for her post doctoral work and later moved to Karolinksa Institute in Sweden, to work on disordered proteins using small-angle X-ray scattering. Having worked on several synchrotron facilities in the US and European Union, (namely, SLAC, Stanford, USA; ESRF, Grenoble, France ; PETRA III, Hamburg, Germany), Dr Sarma has always been very much in tune with the state-of-the-art in biomedical and biotechnology research. Her current portfolio offers her an unique vantage position to have a 360 degree view of the international research scenario. She also serves as mentor for science communication and is an advocate for mental health at work place environment.
