Dr. Seeram Ramakrishna is Associate Editor (Asia) of Biotechnology Kiosk. Currently, he is a Professor of Mechanical Engineering and Bioengineering at National University of Singapore (NUS), Singapore. He is a co-director of NUS Nanoscience and Nanotechnology Initiative (NUSNNI) and he heads the Centre for Nanofibers and Nanotechnology. He is also Chair of the Circular Economy Taskforce at NUS. He received his PhD from the University of Cambridge, U.K. Dr. Ramakrishna is a world leader in biocomposites, medical devices and nano-bioscaffold for tissue engineering. Dr. Ramakrishna has published over 800 papers in world’s leading journals, and he is one of the most cited researchers in the world with Google Scholar total citations of over 121,000 with h-index 160. He demonstrated that nanofibers are the ideal scaffolds to provide biomimetic microenvironment for different cells in tissue engineering application. His team is now investigating the use of their patented nanoyarn and 3-D nanofibrous scaffold in stem-cell capture and expansion. His team has shown a compelling evidence that nanofibrous membrane can be used in water treatment for microfiltration purposes, while surface functionalized nanofibers can be used as affinity membranes for protein purification in biotechnology. He is an advisor to innovation driven biotech companies such as StemLife, Biomers International and NanoComposite, Inc. Dr. Ramakrishna is a fellow of American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering (FAIMBE), USA; Institution of Mechanical Engineers (FIMechE), UK; and Institution of Engineers Singapore (FIES).
